my weekend in review

Hubby ended up coming home on Wednesday from his hunting/camping trip. unfortunately he was having issues with his hunting partner and just chose to come home. we decided to go hunting on thursday in a different area, but left late morning because I had a hair appointment.

DSCN1499

surprise! I have bangs now. it’s a change, but I like it!

while I was at my hair appointment, Hubby went to get the horses since we decided to hunt from horseback.

we got out to our hunting area, unloaded and saddled the horses.

DSCN1491

just giving her lovins’ so she behaves for the Hubby. I’m not brave enough to ride her just yet.

from the back of the boy.

we rode and rode. we ran into some other hunters that hadn’t seen anything and offered another trail where horses would be perfect since it was only a hiking trail and 4-wheelers weren’t allowed. we hit the top of the ridge and looked, but didn’t see anything. got in a good horse ride though.

on the way back into town I sort of decided that I wanted to go deer hunting so we went to a piece of land so I could shooting the Hubby’s rifles to make sure I could do it without killing myself. and I didn’t kill myself. phew.

we went and bought deer licenses that night. deer season was open in some areas already and opened in others on that saturday.

friday we slept in. then we went out bird hunting. Hubby did all the shooting. we ended up coming home with 3 birds. Jaggar got his first taste of bird hunting…and I think he likes it.

DSCN1496

he has no problem putting the birds in his mouth. Twogs (our older golden) acts to good to put a dead animal in her mouth. typical girl!

friday night we went to the high school football game. it was homecoming and we also clinched home field advantage for the playoffs! the game got ugly quick. final score was 55-14…but in our favor.

saturday was EARLY! it was opening day on the mountain for deer and we were up before daylight. we were hiking into an area….along with about 50 other hunters (no seriously!) before the sun came up. we hiked for about an hour and didn’t see anything so we decided to move locations. we didn’t see an elk or deer dead or alive that day. we hunted all day.

we did end up seeing these fellas…

DSCN1506DSCN1507

we actually saw a total of 5, but these two were right off the road. they must have known their season was closed.

DSCN1509DSCN1510DSCN1511

we stopped to let the dogs out to play a little and then eat some lunch. at least we had nice weather.

after lunch we moved locations and decided to sit in an area were there was obvious deer sign.

DSCN1512

I lasted all of 10 minutes maybe before I started to get cold. I’d rather be hiking. so we decided to head back to the truck and try up where Hubby said he saw some earlier that week during elk hunting.

surprise! we didn’t see anything.

hunting fail!

DSCN1503

Jaggar thought hunting was hard work.

sunday we tried bird hunting again and about 10 minutes into hunting Jaggar started whining and crying really loudly. he wouldn’t walk on his back leg. he would try to put weight on it and continued to cry. we didn’t know what he did. so we hauled back into town and called the on call vet and told him the situation. Jaggar was improving slowly. he was putting more weight on it, so the vet didn’t feel it was necessary for us to bring him in, but it was our call. thankfully Jaggar is back to just about 100% today. we still don’t know what happened. we think he may have stretched a muscle or cramped. but he’s not dead and back to acting like a puppy thankfully. he goes in this friday for his 12 week appointment. anyone want to bet on what he weighs?

pretty eventful weekend. phew. I’m pooped just filling you in. Hubby goes back to work tonight for 3 nights and then we may try hunting a different area on his next days off.

trying to get my butt motivated to clean my house and go run. I have a race this weekend! yay! my parents are coming to town this weekend too! yay!

no meat yet.

Hubby called me. so nice to hear from him…actually…he called from a # I didn’t have saved in my phone…and so I let it go to voicemail, so I didn’t actually talk to him. depressing. but he left me a message and he still hadn’t gotten an elk. bummer.

gym session this morning was good. I felt rushed at the end, because I had the dogs in the car and I was starting to worry about them a little. none the less I got it all done.

50 minutes on a spin bike is a lot harder than I always expect it to be. but it feels good to have the quads burning! and get the knees warmed up…hopefully this strengthens that stupid IT band.

I started doing New Rules of Lifting for Women last week. Today was workout 3 of stage 1. A. it seems to be going well. I like it and I like that I have an actual lift plan. usually I just wonder around and just kind of do whatever, so this is new to me. Smile

I’m jumping back into the racing saddle in a little over a week. but I’m not getting to serious about this. I’ll probably end up running the entire time with my mom or dad. we’ll see how I feel on race day. heck I may ditch them both and run my own thing.

this race is called The Link and the money raised goes to the cancer center here in town. and for the race you wear pink since its all about breast cancer awareness! Its either a 5k or 10k. I opted for the 5k. I walked this route last year…so I know the race route and I know the uphills to it! I ran this route + another mile yesterday and the hills actually felt better than I expected. so we’ll see how that pesky IT band feels come race day!

sorry for the lack of pictures, maybe I can get some of my fur babies running around with my sweet “smart” phone!

lonely week

Hubby is currently out hunting.
I would get much into that for those of you that don’t like it.

I was suppose to go with, but the weather conditions kind of turned to winter a few days before we were scheduled to head up the mountain and having the dogs sleep in the truck at night…I just didn’t feel comfortable that little Jag Man could keep himself warm enough, so I decided to stay behind with the dogs.

so…while Hubby’s been away since sunday, I’ve been cleaning the house like crazy and hitting the gym getting back into training and trying to get my fitness back to the level it was before I took a month off because of a weird knee pain. which I think is just a tight IT band. I feel like I am constantly rolling on my foam roller.

Hubby has the camera…so I’m kind of photo-less.

although…I have been checking into something else while Hubby has been gone.

I have been looking into maybe taking a cruise.
reading
meghann’s posts about her lovely cruise have made me insanely jealous. and have really kind of changed my opinion about the idea of a cruise.

we’ll see what it all brings. I know Hubby and I were talking about cruises before he went on his great hunt, so it won’t be a surprise to him when he comes back!

well..cross training and lifting seem to be calling my name! maybe I’ll be back later in the day….let you know how my cleaning is coming. Winking smile

as per Hubby’s request

I got some solid days off finally.
since my job is only seasonal, I’m being laid off at the end of the month, which is NEXT friday. yikes. I had some credit hours that needed to be used up, so I took a few hours off yesterday and all day off today. I never work on fridays. I’m taking the morning off on monday so I have hours to work next friday since you’re required to work part of your last day. all that make sense?! good.

the short of the story is…I was off all day and we went to the mountains.

we took Jaggar for his first “big” hike. a mile up to Black Mountain lookout.

DSCN1331

Hubby’s actually got a few days off too! it was a family affair.

DSCN1336
“are we there yet?”

DSCN1340DSCN1342

Twogs could go all day. Jaggar kept up with big sis best he could…with some minor naps along the way.

DSCN1347

my little family is growing with furbabies!

in other un exciting news.

I climbed back in the running saddle.

only 2.5 miles. but I don’t want to re-injure my IT band…not fun.

I’ll get there. I’ve got about a month to work up to about 6 miles…no problem.

long walk for a little puppy

after we welcomed little Jagger to the family, I went away for the weekend to work some overtime in Cody in the fire dispatch center.

I was blessed with night shift. Smile with tongue out

which means…I came in at 7pm and left at 10am. slept for a few hours and did it all over again the next night. I was only able to do it friday and saturday nights since I have to be back to my regular job tomorrow morning.

Hubby took care of the little man all weekend and made sure to give me the play by play on potty times in the middle of the night. so far…Jag man seems to know how to wake us up to go out in the middle of the night.

Hubby took him for a little walk the other night, but not too long. they (the “experts”) say to allow your puppy to get used to the leash by putting it on them and letting them walk around the yard, then slowly work in the idea of a walk.

but with both Twogs and Jag man…they took to the leash no problem and I say “hey, let’s start walking them now!” that way they know how to “easy'” walk when they get to be dogs and they aren’t the ones taking us for the walk.

at 6 weeks old and close to a 2 mile walk we get this…

DSCN1319

one pooped freaking puppy.

when we got home he passed out until he caught his breath. played with Twogs for a little bit before I separated them so Jagger will bond with me and not Twogwotee (again…something else the “experts” talk about).

I brought Jagger upstairs and he helped me fold laundry and then decided he had enough and fell asleep on top of his pile. Winking smile

DSCN1323

ok ok. laundry folding duties ex-nayed. I put him in his bed and he’s been asleep ever since. I know there is a potty break coming soon, but I’m so tired…I don’t know if I can wait. I may just have to have him wake me up.

its like christmas in september

but without the snow!
welcome to our little family…

DSCN1308
little Jagger.

I had this surprise planned for weeks. I didn’t tell Hubby, I just did! I had the puppy picked out for 3 weeks. I didn’t want to tell him before he was ready for pickup and today he was ready!
I made Hubby close his eyes until I placed little Jagger on his belly. He was in complete shock!

Me-1 Hubby-0!
Hubby is awful with surprises!
I am not!

DSCN1313

He’s 6 weeks…and just a giant furball.
there will be a little adjusting for everyone!

Woah. Hello there!

Holy. Freaking. Canoly!

Where did the summer go?

Oh that's right…I've worked my little tail off to earn some mula!

Its been far too long, and I'm sure I've lost all my followers by now, but ohhh weeeeellll!

Summer seems to pick up a lot for me. And that's really no lie. I've been busy working my regular M-Th job and then on my days off have been working on the fire side of things. Running supplies to fires, shuttling people to and from fires, trying to get in on a little fire action myself. But that hasn't happened yet.

Things have kind of slowed down. I'm at least back in the office regularly and not out in the woods until all hours of the night. I've really slacked off on running. Something about those near 100* temps hasn't really put me in the running kind of mood. Which unfortunately means that I am scratching the idea of running my second half marathon in 2 weeks. I had signed up for the Billings ½ back in June when I was still sticking hard to my schedule and feeling great. BUT! This last month has just been hard to find the time to run. I've had 3 days off in the last month (my doing…I'll work OT!) and the weather has been simply too hot for me to attempt. I didn't want to die here people!

A lot has happened over the summer. Some good, some ok, some scary! But we've made it through.

Today is a pretty big day. BIG surprise happening…it will be like Christmas in September. Hopefully I'll find some time tonight to let you in on that secret! I can't sit still today, I'm too excited!

I spent a little time this morning ordering some running equipment and it makes me anxious to get back out there and train! Gym bag in the mail, an "I <3 SWEAT!" I keep saying..i'll get back into next week. Well next week it is. FOR REAL! No more messing around. I need to slowly get my mileage back up to 20 a week. And I better start freaking enjoying what's left of the running outside business, because all too soon it will be winter and I will have to fall back in love with running on a treadmill in a controlled environment.

NFL starts tonight! And you best believe I am sporting the GREEN BAY jersey!
